A Florida student was tackled and arrested after stealing more than $1,000 from the Hare Krishna lunch line on campus Thursday.

Anthony Davila Stirling, a junior, has been charged with theft and wearing a mask in public as a result of the incident.

Davila Stirling, though, didn’t make it far with the money – which was in a box – before he was stopped by three Florida students, including one who tackled him. The other two students helped hold Davila Stirling down until police could arrive.

The incident occurred on the Plaza of the Americas around 1 p.m. He was booked into the Alachua (Fla.) County Jail at 3:27 p.m., according to jail records.

Hare Krishnas have been a mainstay serving lunch on the Florida campus for years.

The Florida Gators community has examples in the past of students stopping crimes in action. Last July, walk-on linebacker Cristian Garcia thwarted an attempted sexual assault and then received the “It’s On Us” Courage Award as a result of it.

Maybe the student who made the tackle here could become a walk-on, too?
