A 61-year-old man is facing a list of charges, including assaulting a peace officer, following an incident in Richmound last Friday.

This Friday, the Saskatchewan RCMP announced that Ricky Manz of Richmound has been charged with one count of assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of resisting arrest, one count of mischief, one count of uttering threats, and one count of obstructing or interfering with an employee or agency of a municipality.

These charges stem from an incident on July 18th, when Leader RCMP was asked to keep the peace as municipal personnel attended a property in Richmound. An altercation occurred between police and others at the property, leading to the arrest of an adult male. The RCMP's investigation into the matter is ongoing. Manz is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Leader on September 18th.

The incident comes amidst ongoing tensions in the village. The Village of Richmound recently announced the indefinite closure of its municipal office to the public, citing "harassment and intimidation of office staff". Access to the office is now available by appointment only to ensure the safety of the staff.

The tensions are linked to the presence of followers of Romana Didulo, the self-proclaimed "Queen of Canada", who have been occupying the former Richmound School since September 2023. A video of the July 18th altercation between RCMP and individuals at the school surfaced online, sparking more conversation throughout the province about the situation in Richmound.
