Looking for Former Cult Members

Are you or is someone you know a former cult member who was recruited online or through social media?

Help deepen our understanding of the red flags in cult recruitment by participating in our research project that aims to prevent people from joining cultic groups.

The University of Salford is conducting a Qualitative Study of the reflections of former cult members where social media played a key factor in their recruitment and deepening of involvement.

Led by MSc Psychology of Coercive Control student Callie Sorensen and supervised by Dr. Linda Dubrow-Marshall, the study aims to explore the experiences of former cult members during their online recruitment and deepening process, with a focus on retrospective identification of ‘red flags’ and warning signs.

As a former cult member who experienced online recruitment, your unique perspective is incredibly valuable to us. Participation is voluntary and confidential, and you are free to withdraw at any time. The focus group will take place online and will last approximately two hours, with a therapist on standby for support.

By participating in this study, you have the opportunity to share your experiences and contribute to our understanding of online cult recruitment. You may also find a sense of community and support as you connect with other former cult members.

If you're interested in participating and to register go to: bit.ly/cultrecruitment
If you have any questions, please email Callie Sorensen at c.sorensen@edu.salford.ac.uk

Thank you for your support and consideration.
