Authorities say the schools teach a strict religious syllabus
Authorities are searching for up to 1,000 boys from Orthodox Jewish families who could be pupils at illegal private schools in London, it has been claimed.
There could be between 12 and 20 illegal private schools in east London teaching a narrow, religious syllabus, the BBC reports.
Now the Department of Education is working with Ofsted to find the schools and shut them down.
The BBC claims some of the illegal schools are registered as charities, which gains them an advantaged tax status.
Officials from schools watchdog Ofsted and the Department of Education believe the schools offer an insufficiently broad education.
There are similar concerns about stricter Christian and Muslim groups.
