Despite her criticism of the Church of Scientology, Leah Remini says she doesn't regret the time she spent as a member.

"I don't regret what I've been through. I don't regret spending my life there, because it really did teach me a lot," Remini told 20/20 in an interview that aired Friday, adding that it has also given her the perspective to have a "second chance" at life.

In the interview, Remini also recalls being sent to Scientology's headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., for "reprogramming" after she allegedly disrupted Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding in 2006.

"I was in an auditing room," she said. "Basically they were just trying to get me to recant what I said, to apologize for ruining the wedding of the century."

Though she had begun to doubt the church at that point, Remini didn't officially leave until 2013 (inspired in part, she says, by Holmes' divorcing Cruise). She says her reluctance to leave the church was because she couldn't bear the thought of not being able to communicate with her family, many of whom were also members.

"I'm ready to walk away from everybody that I've ever known and cut ties with my own husband, my own mother, because you don't know what they're going to decide," Remini said. "Very often, my experience is people choose the Church."

When she finally did leave, the rest of her family went with her.
