Constitutional Court demands to suspend activities of the cults, violating election laws

President of the Constitutional Court (CC), Alexandru Tanase, recommended the Parliament to amend the electoral law. According to him, the legal framework should allow for the suspension of activities of religious cults and television stations that violate the law.

The CC president has made several statements in this regard in an international conference, organized by the Central Election Commission. In his speech, he said that the presidential elections of 2016 revealed several legislative gaps and deficiencies that some political players tried to turns to their advantage. Tanase specifically referred to the involvement of some representatives of religious denominations in the electoral campaign.

"This is absolutely unacceptable and someone should take the responsibility and courage to put an end to this vicious circle. It is necessary to impose sanctions, including withdrawing the right to carry out religious activities", Tanase said.
