Two Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners are on a road trip through the B.C. Interior to raise awareness about and appeal for the release of a Vancouver resident imprisoned in China.
Sun Qian was arrested in her Beijing home on Feb. 19. She’s a practitioner of Falun Gong, described as a Chinese spiritual discipline, which is prohibited by the Chinese government.
“We are asking the Canadian government to do more to secure the release of Sun Qian, including urging the Chinese authorities to set her free and allow her to return to Canada immediately. Ms. Sun is not a criminal — she is being detained solely on account of her belief in Falun Gong,” said Sue Zhang, whose Interior road trip brought her to Kelowna on Tuesday, in a news release.
