Chatsworth cult leader Fred King known as 'The Prophet' is out after one year.
The former leader of a cult-like church in Chatsworth Township is out of jail.
Bayshore Broadcasting news has learned 58 year old Fred King has been released after serving 12 months of his 18 month sentence.
King, who was called the "Prophet", pled guilty in 2016 to nine counts of assault, and was sentenced in Owen Sound Superior Court last September.
Along with the jail sentence, King was given two years probation.
Justice Clayton Conlan said at the time that the facts of the case were depressing.
The assault charges stemmed from incidents between 1988 and 2008, when King was leader of the Church of Jesus Christ Restored on Concession 2 in Chatsworth Township.
In one case, King beat a young woman in front of the church congregation and made her stand in a corner.
The other cases involved spitting on people, punching or slapping church members, and making some strip naked in front of the congregation.
King, and his older brother Judson were arrested in April of 2014 following a 16 month OPP probe.
Judson King of Oakville plead guilty to 3 counts of assault and was sentenced to a 12 month conditional sentence, 3 years probation, a 10 year weapons ban and he must submit a DNA sample.
The OPP investigation started, after an Owen Sound woman went public with her allegations of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of "cult" leaders.
Carol Christie wrote her story in a book, "Property: The True Story of a Polygamous Church Wife", which was released in mid-2013.
