With an aim to celebrate 50 years of The Beatles’ visit to Rishikesh, Uttarakhand is all set to witness three-day Beatles Festival beginning March 5.

The festival will be held at Chaurasi Kutiya that had once been the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, which was visited by Beatles five decades back. The festival will be part of International Yoga and Cultural Festival at Rishikesh from March 1 to 7 in which yoga experts and spiritual personalities from India and abroad will conduct sessions for participants.

Way back in 1968, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison had arrived at Mahesh Yogi’s ashram Chaurasi Kutiya along with their spouses and other friends and a big media entourage to learn advanced transcendental meditation.

Interestingly, to commemorate, events have also been planned at the United Kingdom. An exhibition in the United Kingdom, titled Beatles in India, is already open and will run for two years at The Beatles Story Museum.

A sitar used by Ravi Shankar is also in display. Other exhibits include photography from Paul Saltzman, a sound engineer for the National Film Board of Canada at the time, who photographed The Beatles during their stay.
