ACCUSED: Masset allegedly told patients to sleep with "10 men a day"
Jacques Masset doled out the bizarre advice to patients to "make them feel better".

The 70-year-old cleaner is facing up to five years inside for posing as a psychotherapist and abusing his patients by urging them to take part in orgies and sadomasochistic acts.

Masset opened up a clinic offering "specialist advice" in how to overcome problems such as shyness and marital difficulties.

He launched his clinic in 1990 in the French town of Ugine, near Annecy, and was still working as a "guru" until April, 2015, earning more than £100,000 a year.

“For some patients it involved torture. One of his victims had to sleep with ten men each day”

The court was told he would introduce his patients and encourage them to have as much sex as possible with each other, sometimes while he watched.

His psychoanalysis also amounted to telling male clients that they had "sexual issues with their mother", while women were told they had "sexual issues with their father".

"Healing" involved sleeping with third parties outside relationships, and not using contraception.

But following complaints last year, Masset was accused of "abusing the weakness of individuals with psychological troubles".

Roselyne Duvouldy, a barrister representing 14 of Masset's victims, said: "For some patients it involved torture. One of his victims had to sleep with ten men each day."

A spokesman for UNADFI, the families charity which helped bring the case to court, said: "He pretended that these orgies, in which he sometimes participated, would prevent women from falling into prostitution.

"He also brought up false memories of incest for some victims, which had terrible knock-on effects."

Max Joly, for Masset, said his client found it hard to understand why he is being punished, given that his activity was within the law.

The case continues.
