What really happened inside Word of Life Christian Church the night of Oct. 11?

Christopher Leonard, 17, who reportedly was beaten along with his brother Lucas Leonard, 19, inside the church, shed some light on that question Wednesday.

Lucas was pronounced dead on Monday, Oct. 12, at the St. Luke's Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System. Christopher wasn't brought to the hospital until later that day, when he was discovered by police during a search at the property. He stayed in the hospital until Saturday, when he was released into the custody of Oneida County Child Protective Services.

In a brief news conference after the hearing, Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara said any additional charges or new indictments are likely to be announced around Thanksgiving, after grand jury consideration. He said the office plans on pursuing any individuals who have culpability in the case.

“We are looking at everybody that was involved in this incident and we will present all the information that we have to the grand jury, along with the charges that were originally filed and any other charges we feel are appropriate and that will include depraved indifference murder," McNamara said. "There are numerous other charges, one of those charges will be gang assault. There are a lot of other charges that were not initially filed, but we can ask a grand jury to consider.”
