Leah Remini isn't holding her tongue about the Church of Scientology.

"The decision to leave is you're giving up everything you have worked for your whole life," the actress told ABC's "20/20″ in an interview airing Friday. "I feel that people need to understand this has been my whole life and I want them to understand how it happens."

Remini, 45, practiced the controversial religion for more than 30 years.

According to Remini, the longer one stays with the church, the longer that person falls out of touch with the real world. "The mindset becomes us against them," she adds.

Scientology's most famous face, Tom Cruise, was also up for discussion. "Being critical of Tom Cruise is being critical of Scientology itself," she said.

Interviewer Dan Harris also bluntly asked Remini, "If you knew Tom Cruise was watching this, what would you say to him?"

The tell-all interview coincides with the release of Remini's new book, "Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology," on Nov. 3.
