The Batshaw Youth and Family Centres can say little about raid, citing Youth Protection Act

A youth protection operation is underway at a suspected illegal school in the Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough, led by Batshaw Youth and Family Centres with the help of the Montreal police.

CBC's French-language service, Radio-Canada, has confirmed the school is operated by the ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish community, and it's suspected of operating without an Education Ministry permit.

There is a heavy police presence around Beaubien Street and Parc Avenue.

Police are not commenting on the raid.

Claire Roy, a spokeswoman for CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal – the regional health and social services agency under which Batshaw falls – would not comment about the nature of the operation, citing the restrictions in Quebec's Youth Protection Act.

Education Minister Sebastien Proulx said he is aware of the raid but won't comment further until he has more information about what's happening.
